The short answer
For an emergency practice, the on-page and technical SEO that matters is the same work as building your ad landing pages, and it ships with them.
And there is a specific reason it is cleaner in your niche than in most: the single highest-value organic signal you have is your hours, marked up correctly — and that is a build task, not a monthly service.
Why your niche is different
Your most valuable query has a time dimension. "Emergency vet open now." "24 hour vet." "Vet open tonight." The searcher is not asking who exists; they are asking who is open, right now, near them.
Google can answer that — but only if your hours exist as structured data it can read, correct, including holidays. Most emergency veterinary websites express hours as a static table in a footer, which is a document, not data.
Marking that up correctly is a one-time build task with an outsized and permanent organic return. No retainer produces it monthly. It either exists or it doesn't.
The second-largest opportunity is geographic and it is also structural: "emergency vet near [town]" is a real query for every town in your drive radius, and a site with one city name in its title captures one of them.
What ships with your build
- Hours as structured data — correct, holiday-aware, and the thing that makes you eligible to be shown as open
- A computed open-state on the page, not an hours table the visitor has to solve at 11:40pm
- Coverage-area and drive-time content, so the surrounding towns are pages, not an afterthought
- Emergency exam fee published. The cost query is a large slice of this niche's volume, and silence sends the reader to whoever answers
- Triage content — what can honestly wait until morning. An underserved query family, the right thing to publish, and it protects your phone line
- Speed treated as clinical. One measured emergency site's mobile Largest Contentful Paint was 12.5 seconds. Google's threshold is 2.5
- Title tags, headings, internal linking, structured practice data, canonicals, sitemap, clean markup
What I don't do, and won't quietly imply I do
Ongoing content programmes. Link building. Google Business Profile management. Monthly SEO reporting or rank tracking as a deliverable. Citation building.
Stated as plainly as the included list, because "SEO included" can be stretched to imply a retainer's worth of work. It isn't one.
Why it's one job
The work that makes an ad convert is the work that makes a page rank — I do it once, you get both, and agencies bill you twice for it.
"Open now" is the highest-converting modifier in emergency search. The page that can prove it is open converts the paid click and is the eligible organic result, driven by the same structured hours data. There is no version of this where those are two projects.
The receipt, in your niche
One emergency hospital in a mountain-west market, PageSpeed Insights, May 2026:
| Live site | The build | |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile performance | 58 / 100 | 98 / 100 |
| Largest Contentful Paint | 12.5s | 1.4s |
| Modelled Quality Score | 2 | 9 |
| Modelled cost per click | $7.82 | $2.49 |
Emergency keywords carry the highest cost per click in the vertical — modelled at 1.4 to 1.8 times the local market's base rate, roughly $2.50 to $9.20 a click on a decent page. You are paying the most per click to serve the least patient reader in veterinary medicine. That is why the twelve seconds matter more here than anywhere else.
Practices measured are prospects, not clients, and are never named.
What this all costs
| Line item | Elsewhere | Here |
|---|---|---|
| Website | $5,000–$10,000+ upfront, or inside $1,200–$5,000/mo bundles | free |
| On-page SEO | $800–$1,500/mo (2026 veterinary SEO benchmark, small-market band) | included |
| Hosting / care plan | commonly billed | $200/mo, from month two |
| Ads management | — | $750/mo flat |
Agencies charge for five line items. Three are free byproducts of doing the fourth right. The fifth is billing you twice for the third. I charge for the one that books new patients.
